Ventilation - Air Quality
Ventilation is Changing or Replacing Air
The purpose of ventilation is to maintain indoor air quality. This is done by exchanging air inside and outside and also circulating the air inside.
Ventilation is used to remove moisture, odors, smoke, heat, fumes, bacteria, and prevent stagnation of air.
There are two major types of Ventilation:
Mechanical or Forced Ventilation
Mechanical Ventilation involves the use of electricity, motors, fans, ducting and other mechanical equipment to force and move the air as designed.
Natural Ventilation
By contrast Natural Ventilation involves moving air without the use of mechanical systems. Moving air is achieved through building design, windows, drawing air from lower to higher areas. This method requires little energy, but does require high attention to design and may not be adequate in extreme temperatures.
